Icehouses, prior to the invention of the refrigerator, were buildings where snow and ice would be taken from the winter months and packed with insulation. The ice would remain frozen and then used as a source of ice during the summer months. In Texas, former icehouses are a cultural tradition, with many now converted into open-air bars.

Fred Bridger, along with two other partners, opened Hog Creek Icehouse at its original location near Speegleville, Texas in December of 2003. It was named so due to its nearness to Hog Creek, which is a Texas creek that runs forty-three miles southeast to Lake Waco.

Four years later & approximately ½ mile from its original location, Wayne Redding & Fred Bridger reopened Hog Creek Icehouse in its present location, 170 Branson Trail. The GRAND OPENING on March 23rd - 25th, 2007 was a huge success.

On March 27, 2008, the Seventh Annual Music Association of Central Texas Groovy Awards designated Hog Creek Icehouse as the Club of the Year for the second year in a row!
